Cycling Mekong 2 days and homestay
- Durée: 2 Jours (environ)
- Lieu: Ho Chi Minh City, Ho Chi Minh
- Code produit: APVI
The tour takes you on an active adventure along canal paths and orchard trails, across ferries that sometimes only fit half a dozen people and through the charming villages and towns that this area is known for. This trip is about more than whizzing past the sites and taking photographs, the tour has been crafted to immerse you deep into the Delta (and we’re not talking about dunking you in the water!) and it's unique way of life. In this area at each corner a picture-perfect scene awaits. We stay overnight on island homestay with an incredibly welcoming host family, the amenities are somewhat basic, but you have a bed, hot shower, the warm hospitality of your hosts and a delicious home-cooked meal. Combined with the peacefulness of the surrounding countryside you’ve got the perfect recipe for a great night’s sleep and some lasting memories.
Itinerary
Day 1:Transfer to Ben Tre Cycle & Boat to Tra On 40km cycling
The tour departs at 07:30 am as we board our private, air-conditioned van for the 80km ride to the Delta. On arrival in the Mekong Delta your bikes will be set-up as you enjoy a rich local coffee or pot of refreshing tea at a small village cafe. Our starting location - Ben Tre, is well known as the Coconut Kingdom, and we will explore the many products the ever-versatile coconut is used to make.
Our ride start on easy, flat road through the shady canal paths and back roads, stopping along the way to see farms, flowers, waving villagers and fuel up on some fresh tropical fruit grown in the region. Around noon we take a ferry across the Mekong river for a tasty lunch before driving to another boat stop for a relaxing cruise to the family homestay.
After a big day of exploring you now have some time to relax and unwind before taking a walk around the village and perhaps trying your hand at helping a little with the local dinner.
Meals: Lunch, dinner
Day 2: Floating Markets, Cycle & Transfer to Saigon 30km cycling
Another great ride awaits today and you will be wishing your time in the Delta would not come to an end, but there is more to come! We’ll go by the floating markets for which this area has become quite well known, but as most visitors to the delta will be headed to the chaotic main market near Can Tho, our hosts will take us to a real, local floating market. This is as authentic as it gets, with vegetables tossed from craft to craft and a little coffee vendor boat bouncing in and out of the gaps, serving strong iced coffee.
After taking some time to experience this explosion of color and activity, we take to the bikes again to explore the islands along canal paths and ferries. An interesting fact of this region is it features many sites constructed during the Khmer rule of the Delta and today nearly 1.5 million people of Cambodian descent still call this area home. Following our two-wheeled expedition, it’s time for yet another mouth-watering lunch before our drive back to Saigon and drop-off at your hotel door.
